In November, I had the privilege of photographing Maegan and Jay's intimate wedding in the heart of the Hudson Valley. I’ve known Maegan for years—having previously photographed her with her sisters—and it was such an honor to capture her wedding day. Fun fact: Maegan is the older sister of Ari, who is my little sister’s best friend, making this day even more special for me.
It was a chilly but picturesque November day when I met Maegan at her parents’ home in Hopewell Junction to start photographing the details and getting-ready moments. I captured Maegan and her sisters as she slipped into her gorgeous wedding dress, the perfect start to the day. After that, I headed over to Holy Light Pentecostal Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, to photograph Jay and his family before the ceremony. One of the most important aspects of this wedding was taking family portraits before the ceremony. For Maegan and Jay, family means everything, so it was essential to capture these special moments before they said "I do."
After the family portraits, Maegan, Jay, and I headed to a nearby park with a stunning view of the Hudson Bridge. It was the ideal spot for a golden hour first look, and the soft, glowing light created the most beautiful setting for portraits. We took some quiet, intimate photos of the couple as they shared this special moment together before the ceremony.
The ceremony was filled with love, laughter, and joy—a perfect reflection of Maegan and Jay’s relationship. One of my favorite parts of the day was witnessing the pure happiness shared between the couple and their families. After the ceremony, I switched to my documentary-style approach, capturing candid moments as Maegan and Jay signed their marriage certificate, posed with family members, and arrived at their dinner reception at Shadows on the Hudson. The entire day was a celebration of love and togetherness, and I felt honored to capture these memories as their Hudson Valley wedding photographer.

As a professional wedding photographer, having the right gear is essential to ensure every moment is perfectly captured. For Maegan and Jay’s wedding, I used the Canon R6 Mark II, which offers amazing image quality and fast autofocus, perfect for wedding photography. I relied primarily on two lenses: the Canon 50mm 1.2 L USM and the Canon 28-70mm f2 L USM. The 50mm 1.2 is one of my favorite lenses for its ability to create dreamy, soft backgrounds while keeping the subject in sharp focus, making it ideal for portraits and intimate moments.
This wedding also marked the first time I used the Canon 28-70mm f2 L USM lens, and it quickly became one of my favorites for its versatility. Whether I was shooting wide-angle shots of the ceremony or zooming in for close-up portraits, this lens allowed me to capture stunning images without needing to switch lenses frequently. Combined with my Godox V1 flash, I was able to capture everything from natural light moments to low-light, indoor shots, resulting in beautiful, well-lit images throughout the day.
