A few favorite photos from this session:
A little about me
Hi! I’m Carlota—a Danbury CT family and maternity photographer based in Bethel, CT, serving families across Fairfield and Westchester Counties. I also work full-time as a product designer, and photography is something I’ve kept close to my heart as a creative outlet and meaningful side hustle.
My style leans editorial, with a focus on clean, true-to-color images that feel vibrant and full of life. I love a mix of candid and posed moments—photos that feel polished and intentional, but still authentic to who you are. More than anything, I want the experience to be fun, relaxed, and personal to you and your family.
Planning with Casey
Casey reached out to plan a family and maternity session before her second baby arrives. She was 32 weeks pregnant when we met up for the shoot, and I could feel the excitement her family had as they prepared to grow from three to four.
We planned the session mostly through text—sharing ideas back and forth, and talking through what kind of vibe she wanted. Casey sent me a Pinterest board with photo inspiration, and I sent her a custom mood board in return to help tie everything together. She even sent me photos of the outfits she was thinking of buying online, and they turned out perfect for the shoot.
She had the cutest idea for a picnic fruit theme, which ended up being such a fun and unique way to make the photos feel personal and playful. It’s also a great idea for sessions with young kids—it gives them something to do, something to focus on, and it keeps the mood light and happy.
Planning a session with littles can definitely feel stressful to many parents, and I totally get that. That’s why I always bring a few tricks with me to help everyone settle in. I usually have a small speaker to play music, suggest little games or prompts, and come up with distractions on the spot to get kids in a good mood. Picking a time when your child is well-fed, rested, and not rushed really helps too. And when we're planning a session together, I’ll always send along tips and suggestions beforehand so we can make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible—and get those real, joyful smiles.
The session at Waveny Park
We met at Waveny Park in New Canaan, which has quickly become one of my favorite locations. There’s something about the wide fields, beautiful gardens, and that grand stone building in the background—it works for so many kinds of sessions.
The weather was soft and overcast (which honestly makes for great lighting), and everything felt calm and colorful. Casey laid out a simple picnic blanket and brought fresh fruit for their daughter to play with. She was so cute throughout the entire session—pointing out airplanes, picking up strawberries, and giggling as she ran through the grass.
It was one of those sessions that felt easy and happy from start to finish. The colors popped, the family energy was sweet and fun, and the connection between them really came through in every photo.
Why I love photographing families
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is building real connections with people. I love chatting before a session, learning what’s important to you, and making the experience feel collaborative and fun. Casey and I were texting ideas and outfits like friends by the end of it—and that’s what I hope for in every session.
Documenting growing families, especially during a season like pregnancy, is such a gift. These photos freeze a fleeting moment before life changes again—and there’s so much beauty in that.
