A Surprise Proposal at Aquila’s Nest Vineyards 🍷✨

I absolutely love photographing proposals—they’re one of the most emotional, exciting, and meaningful moments a couple can share. It’s that life-changing “yes” moment when everything feels electric. And this surprise proposal at Aquila’s Nest Vineyards in Newtown, Connecticut with Jorge and Yumaira was pure magic from start to finish.


Planning the Surprise

When Jorge first reached out, he told me he wanted it to be a total surprise for his girlfriend, Yumaira. From there, we got to planning—because when you work with me for a proposal, you’re not just hiring a photographer, you’re getting a teammate to help make it perfect.


We looped in one of Yumaira’s close friends, who played a key role in setting the stage. She casually invited the couple to grab drinks at Aquila’s Nest (which, by the way, is such a romantic and photogenic winery). Meanwhile, I arrived early to make sure everything was ready for the setup.


The Setup & The Story

The second part of our plan? I’d approach them under the guise of working for Aquila’s social media team—saying we were looking for couples willing to take a few photos in exchange for free pictures. Totally believable and totally perfect.


We started with some casual “content” shots around the vineyard. I led them to a few beautiful spots, keeping it light and fun while secretly counting down to the big moment. When it was time, I directed them to walk toward a hidden area—where a beautiful “Marry Me” display and romantic setup were waiting, completely out of view until the last second.


The Big Moment

As they turned the corner, Yumaira saw the setup—and instantly realized what was happening. Her face said everything. She was shocked, tearing up, and so overcome with emotion that I started tearing up too. It was the most heartfelt reaction and such an honor to witness up close. We had perfect weather that day, a golden sunset over the vines, and everything unfolded flawlessly.
